Spanning over 100 acres, our property is a sub-tropical paradise. We’ve always strived to maintain a harmonious relationship with the land, respecting its natural beauty rather than imposing upon it. Our goal has always been to offer more than just a luxurious escape. An experience where people can slow down, reconnect with nature, themselves and experience the magic of being incredibly comfortable and surrounded by flora and fauna at the same time.
The concept of honouring the land is a core value at Gymea. It reflects a deep respect for the natural world and a commitment to preserving its beauty for generations to come. This philosophy is woven into every aspect of the retreat experience, from the sustainable practices employed to the deep connection guests cultivate with the surrounding environment and the way we choose to expand as a venue and grow Gymea.
Sustainable Practices at Gymea Eco Retreat
our goal is to be an example of how luxury can coexist with sustainability. The retreat center is committed to minimizing its environmental impact through a variety of practices, including:
- Using renewable energy sources: The retreat utilizes solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy.
- Water conservation: All the water utilised on the property is collected on the roof’s of our buildings. Gymea implements water-saving measures throughout the property, such as low-flow showerheads and rainwater harvesting.
- Responsible waste management: The retreat practices responsible processing all of our black and grey water onsite, waste disposal, recycling and composting to reduce landfill waste.
- Locally partners and resources: We recommend that our hosts engage our local practitioners for welcome to country, yoga, meditation, breath work and sound healing for activities when they do not have those expertise within their facilitation team. Additionally we recommend a range of local cooks and chefs for different needs, serving fresh seasonal produce sourced locally and prepared to give guest the most nourishing food experience whilst on retreat. This not only reduces the retreat’s carbon footprint but also supports the local community.
Cultivating a Connection with Nature
Beyond the sustainable practices, Gymea Eco Retreat fosters a deep connection between its guests and the natural world. The retreat offers a variety of opportunities that allow guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
- Yoga and meditation: These classes are often held outdoors, allowing guests to connect with nature while practicing mindfulness.
- Nature walks and hikes: The retreat center is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, with walking trails that meander through lush land for wildlife.
- Indigenous cultural experiences: Gymea offers opportunities to learn about the traditional connection of the Aboriginal people to the land with out welcome to country partners.
- Quiet spaces: Throughout the retreat space we have created ‘quiet spaces’ where guests can journal, meditate, soak up the sun and integrate the work they are doing on retreat. From comfy lounges and grassy nooks, to benches nestled in the green on the grounds, there are plenty of places to curl up, disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with self and the surrounds.
We hope that by providing access to these types of experiences, that participating in these activities on retreat, guests gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the importance of preserving it.
Honouring the land is not just about environmental practices; it’s about fostering a sense of respect and gratitude for the natural world. The land which Gymea inhabits provides a unique opportunity to experience the power of nature immersion firsthand, leaving guests feeling rejuvenated, reconnected, and inspired to live more sustainably.
