Unveiling the New Octagon: A Transformed Heart of Gymea
The Octagon has long been the vibrant heart of our retreat center. As a space that fosters transformation, connection, and deep personal work, it holds a special place in the Gymea experience. This year we embarked on a project to revitalize this core area, and we’re thrilled to finally unveil the stunning new Octagon!
A Space for Your Journey
The Octagon is where the magic happens. It’s the space that holds our transformational workshops, yoga sessions, meditation gatherings, sound healing journeys, presentations, breathwork exercises, and so much more. We knew that with such a variety of uses, the renovated Octagon needed to be incredibly flexible. It had to adapt seamlessly to the needs of each retreat, fostering intimacy for small groups while also accommodating larger gatherings.
From Drab to Fab: A Brighter, Warmer Octagon
For those of you who have been with us from the very beginning, you might remember the Octagon in its previous incarnation: awash in yellow walls and adorned with dark maroon curtains. While it served its purpose, we felt it was time for a refresh. Our vision was to create a space that was still undeniably “Gymea” while feeling brighter, airier, and more welcoming.
We achieved this by opting for a warm, neutral colour palette. This change instantly transformed the room, creating a sense of spaciousness and tranquillity. The new colour scheme provides a perfect backdrop for any retreat activity, allowing the focus to remain entirely on you and your journey.
Light and Privacy in Harmony
Another key aspect of the renovation was the curtains. We wanted to find a solution that balanced privacy with natural light control. Gone are the heavy maroon drapes. In their place, we’ve installed beautiful new curtains that offer a few key benefits:
- Privacy: During workshops and sessions, the curtains allow us to create a contained and intimate space, fostering a sense of security and focus.
- Sound Absorption: The new curtains contribute to the overall acoustic comfort of the Octagon. This is particularly important for sound healing sessions and activities that require a quieter environment.
- Warmth and Light: The fabric we chose provides a touch of warmth during the cooler months while still allowing ample natural light to filter through, keeping the space bright and airy in the summer.

Seating and comfort
Ample comfortable seating, whether it’s a full day of conference presentations or a nook to journal, we have stocked this space with a new set of comfortable lounges, paired with a full range of conference seats that can be added to the space.
The Octagon is fully stocked with yoga mats, cushion mats, yoga props including; bolsters, blocks, straps and blankets.
